Adult Learner #1 is an experimental photography zine that delves the surreal and chaotic experience of being a surfer based in Los Angeles in the age of rotting digital media ecosystem. Circulated for free in the local parking lots, its grungy lo-fi pages’ collages capture moments from inside the scene. No aspect of this web of us vibration-fiends is off limit as a component, from the sublime chrome shimmers of a peak winter swell, to angry YouTube comments arguing about competition judging, to faded Polaroid screenshots from last decade’s discard surf video games, broken beach cams, to the faint stylish gesture from a shadow of a surfer making our normal sloppy waves a moment of grace.
